Frequently Asked Questions:

What's the best way to sign up for a class?
Check the 'Schedule' page, then sign up on the 'Contact Us' page or email us at babysittertraining100@gmail.com with all of your info.

When and how do I pay?
Bring cash or check (payable to BraveHeart CPR) to class. You can pre-pay with Venmo.

Does it cost more to take a class from BraveHeart, or to schedule a custom class?                                                    No, we actually charge the same - usually less! than taking the same class through the Red Cross offices.  We do not charge more for custom classes, and we do not charge a travel fee.

What do I need to bring with me to class?
Water bottle, a snack if you'd like, and bring a lunch for day-long classes (like Babysitting).

What do I wear?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing, as you will be up and down and on the floor with the manikins.          You will want a hair tie for long hair.

Why do you need my email address?
We use it to send you a reminder before the class, and to send your certificate after the class is over.

(Each participant should have a 'unique' email address for certified courses, as only one name can be associated with each email address in the ARC system.)

How old do you have to be to take the babysitting class?
The class is recommended for children 11-15, but younger or older students are able to take the class.
Younger participants should be considered to be 'good students' and able to pay attention in a
day-long class setting; older students should consider taking an advanced class, or an additional CPR class as well.

Are babysitters certified in CPR and First Aid?
They learn basic first aid and practice rescue breaths & chest compressions (intro to CPR) and care for choking; but the Babysitter's Training Course does not certify them in CPR or First Aid. (They can enroll in a 2-day class to get those additional skills and certifications or take them separately later.)

I'm required to be certified for my job.  Will your course fulfill that requirement?
Yes! As a Licensed Training Provider for the American Red Cross, BraveHeart's instructors are certified to teach the classes you need.  You should make sure that you sign up for the components you're required to have (BLS, or Adult or Pediatric CPR / AED / First Aid).  There are skills demonstrations and practice sessions, and optional written tests (multiple choice) for each component. We are now teaching the revised 2021 version of the courses. We can also help you become an INSTRUCTOR, so you can do the training for your workplace.

My group doesn't need to get certified, but we want to learn the life-saving skills.  Can we do that?
Yes!  We can customize classes for your group.  This is a cost-effective way to learn the skills as well.

When are your classes scheduled?
Anytime! We schedule Babysitting classes many times each year on weekdays when the students are out of school.  We also have several schools who schedule us to come to their gym or library on in-service days or during the summer. Other classes are scheduled by request.  We can accommodate any time request: weekdays, weekends, evening or nighttime hours.

I don't see a class I need on your schedule.  What can I do?
It's easy to schedule a class.  Just email us or give us a call and we'll work with you to design a class. We'll send you what you need as well as information to use to generate some interest for your class, if appropriate.

What do I need to host a class at my office or school?
You need a location and the minimum number of people to attend.  You need a table, chairs, a DVD player or projector/internet access*, and a room with enough space to accommodate the class.  We provide all other materials and supplies needed for the class.    * We can bring AV equipment if necessary.

What is a Blended Learning class?
Blended Learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions conducted by one of BraveHeart's Red Cross-certified instructors. The blended learning courses build the same knowledge and skills as the traditional classroom training courses. You can watch the interactive video sessions and learn much of the information at home in your PJs if you want :) Then you meet in class for a (shorter) session with the instructor, and practice and test your skills with the manikins, in order to get certified.

Can I get credit (Continuing Education Units) for these classes?
Yes. The American Red Cross has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International
Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). As a result, Red Cross is authorized to offer IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for qualified programs. Additional information about CEUs is available.

Why are some of the other on-line offers for certification so cheap?
Beware of instant or on-line certification offers that do not have any hands-on skills sessions. If you do not meet with an instructor, or are not allowed practice time with a manikin, it probably will not qualify as an approved class for certification by many employers (including OSHA).

I'm interested in teaching! Can you help?
Yes! We offer Instructor Trainer classes in FA/CPR/AED. Call us for details.
